Miscellaneous and Schedule Items
SUMMER CELEBRATION- Our 2016 Summer Celebration program will announced next week. The first week to start earning points will be for delivery the week of July 11th. Watch for a flyer in the Distinctive Values the end of next week.
Independence Day– Remember we are CLOSED on Monday July 4th. All Monday Standing Orders will be delivered on Tuesday. Dutch Direct and Grower Direct items normally for Monday will be available for Tuesday.
Supply Closeouts– Keep watching for closeouts on hard goods over the next few weeks as we make room for the new fall and Christmas items to start coming in.
Roses
We are finally starting to see signs of the market loosening up. Production is still really bad but demand has dropped substantially. Prices for next week have not changed but we expect that maybe toward the end of next week we’ll start to see prices dropping just a little and by July 4 week, the market should be back down to normal.
Colors- Will still be priced high but relief is in sight. Around the week of July 4 we should be back to normal. Some of the more popular varieties (mother of pearl, sweet eskimo etc.) will continue to be priced high and limited.
Red– availability is increasing and prices are decreasing.
Sprays- Production is still horrible but with demand dropping, we should have a nice availability for next week. Prices have not dropped but hopefully they too will become a little more reasonable in the next 2-3 weeks.
Novelty
Peonies- The Local peony season is starting to wind down. We’ll start getting some from Vermont next week but quantities are limited. There are still some Dutch coming too but not for much longer.
Cymbidium- Dutch Cymbidium are finished. Cymbidiums and Mini Cymbidiums will now be coming from New Zealand. Keep in mind that these are considerably more expensive than the Dutch, and we can’t get specific varieties, just general colors like light pink, yellow, green, white etc.
Local– Some Local items that are starting to appear for next week: Amaranthus, Plume Celosia, Salvia, Rudbeckia, and Zinnias
Stock and Larkspur- These are still somewhat limited and we may have some shortages next week on some colors.
Snapdragons– Availability in California varies from grower to grower, but Canadian are still very reasonably priced, probably through July 4th or so.
Basics
Carnations– Production continues to remain limited although we are beginning to see a turn around. We expect production volume to look better mid July.
Mini Carnation– Production of Mini Carns is way off expected levels due to weather and farms continuing to move away from Mini Carnation production as a viable profit maker. We expect VERY limited availability and we will most likely sell out each week for the next few weeks.
Gyp– Production is simply not as expected. Our orders are being cut weekly. The limited availability and high pricing will probably continue through mid-August and we will probably sell out each week for the next few weeks.
Mums/Pom Pons– Pom and Mum farms continue to cut production levels back as they do each summer, due to lower levels of demand. Availability and pricing should remain close to where we currently are for another week or so. Pricing should begin to drop after the July 4th Holiday.
Leatherleaf– We have a new source for Leather from Honduras. The bunches are very clean and nice sized. All grades are 20 stemmed bunches. Available in Large, Medium and Junior sizes. Give it a try and let your sales rep know how you like it.
