Trending Worth Recommending: Something Old is New Again

Shopping for hard goods for a vintage inspired wedding can be overwhelming at times but it can also be some of the most fun you’ve ever had getting a wedding together. The key to successfully pulling off a vintage inspired wedding set up is all in your accessories and hard goods. I personally love to make every table a different style, when you first start setting up it looks as if nothing matches, but that’s where the charm of this style comes from, it builds character and keeps guests engaged with looking at the décor on the table and discovering something new all night long.

Hard Goods:

• Tea cups and tea pots: I love to mix china patterns together on a vintage tablescape. I gather all different mismatch teacups and saucers and fill them with a few rose heads or tufts of gypsophila and scatter them around the table, the design itself is simple but when you put them together the different patterns play off each other to make a bold statement.

• Pearls and Lace: Pearls and lace are a fantastic way to accent the décor in these weddings, different length pearl stands accompanied by lace ribbon or a doily is the cherry on top of a perfect vintage wedding. I have draped pearl stands on the back of chairs and even just scattered them around the table, no matter how you lay out these beauties they just add a feeling of understated elegance to the wedding. Lace table overlays, lace bows on chairs, or even lace doilies add an old world romance and charm to the atmosphere and help to pull together your reinvention of something old.

• Suitcases: I adore using old vintage suitcases at these events. You can stack them in a corner, cut a hole in the top to use as a card holder on the gift table, or even prop them open and fill them with a sea of gypsophila to place the place cards on.
• Books: Vintage books are very versatile for these weddings, you can stack them to make a pedestal or you can scatter them about the table to add a fun twist. A lot of old books will have hand written notes or inscriptions inside of them which is really fun for guests to open and explore, that’s why I usually open some on the table so that way guests can easily flip through them and take a step back in time.
• Cake Plates: A classic cake plate can really dress up a table and it is also a great prop to use as a pedestal to create a tiered design. I love to stack two on top of each other to add more drama to the tablescape; this is also another area that mixing in different cut glass patterns adds to the experience of the evening. I also like how these give you another level to showcase some of the other props you are using to decorate with, often when you lay these tables out and everything is table level some of the smaller props get lost in the design.
• And don’t forget the tip from Tuesday about pairing mercury glass/tall pilsner vases with large composites of gypsophila to make a bold statement!
