Miami Airport Cargo receives 86% of Flower Imports Into the United States. Miami’s airfreight industry is top-ranked in the Western Hemisphere for international air cargo, beating out New York’s JFK, Chicago’s O’Hare and Los Angeles International. There are 132 daily cargo flights moved nearly 1.7 million tons of airfreight through the airport in 2009. The airport received 86% of the country’s flower imports in 2008, more than 70% of U.S. fruit and vegetable imports and nearly 65% of fish imports.
Retail sales rose in February, the government said Friday, surprising economists who expected a decline. The Commerce Department said total retail sales edged up 0.3 percent to $355.5 billion last month. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com had anticipated that February sales would drop 0.2 percent.
