Another Successful DVFlora Blood Drive!
“Today the American Red Cross has issued an emergency request for blood donations. Many fewer donors than expected gave blood during June and the first week of July, leading the Red Cross to issue an emergency request for donors of all blood types, especially O negative, A negative and B negative, to make an appointment to donate. Donations were down about 10 percent in June, resulting in about 50,000 fewer donations than expected. June can be among the most challenging months of the year for blood donations as regular donors delay giving s they adjust to summer schedules. Every day, the Red Cross must collect almost 17,000 pints of blood for patients at nearly 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion.
Yesterday, Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist saw 69 donors come through the doors. This included both employees and community members. They collected a total of 63 productive units, potentially saving the lives of 189 patients. Yesterday,The American Red Cross Penn-Jersey region collected 662 units. This means Delaware Valley contributed 9.5% of all blood collected yesterday. Out of the 25 blood drives held, they collected the 2nd most units for the day. This is a huge accomplishment. Since 2007 Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist has collected a total of 376 units of blood, potentially saving the lives of 1,128 patients. Thank you to everyone who participated and continues to support Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist and theAmerican Red Cross.”
