Miscellaneous and Schedule Items
Hurricane Matthew- We have been watching the storm closely all week and have been doing what we can to limit it’s impact on us and our customers. We pushed our farms to get their product to Miami in time to get it on our trucks before the storm closed the airports an created travel restrictions. Our logistics teams have been working extremely hard to get this product out of the storm’s impact area. We also have been utilizing some more western trucking routes from Miami to avoid flooded or high traffic areas We were able to get most of the product we need for Monday out but there will be some items delayed, since there were also flight delays from South America and other factors involved. However, our operations team made it in to work today (Friday) so we should be caught up quickly. But please be patient- we will have a better picture over the weekend of what will and won’t make it.
Evergreens Prebook: Make sure you get your evergreens orders in by October 17th to get the early prebook pricing on regular items. Any items that were “Prebook Only” may not be available anymore.
Roses
Black Roses- The Black varieties- Baccara, Magic, and Pearl- remain EXTREMELY limited. Please get your orders in early, and be flexible on the exact variety you will take.
Reds, Colors– Not much change in the market- Reds are plentiful and priced low, Colors are in short supply and priced relatively high. Fall colors and high demand wedding varieties are extremely limited.
Novelties
Red Hanging Amaranthus– California production on Red Hanging Amaranthus was already limited but it seems to have hit a wall. Our pending orders for this weekend’s departure are starting to get cut back. We will not have a final confirmation until this Saturday as to what will be shipping this weekend for delivery mid-week, but some orders may not be filled. We will have some Dutch Rosary type, but the price is higher so we are only bringing in limited quantities.
Stock– One major stock grower was unable to ship us any stock the end of this week. We will have Stock from other farms, but Stock will be limited next week.
White Anemone– White Anemone are extremely limited, particularly Black Center varieties, and prices are extremely high. You should try to find substitutes if possible.
Burgundy/Chocolate Dahlias and Ranunculus- These are also extremely limited. We may not be able to secure enough to cover all the orders this week.
Peonies– Peonies from Chile are now becoming available! This week we will have some of the early Coral varieties, plus some Red, White and Hot Pink.
Tuberose– Mexico is the main commercial producer of Tuberose. They will be off crop for roughly 2 weeks so this item will not be available.
Basics
Fillers – Solidago Golden Glory is in a short production gap for about 10 days or so. Gyp is still somewhat limited compared to normal. Limonium of all types is also quite limited. Statice production is good. Wax from Peru and Australia is steady.
Carnations and Mini Carnations– Production is good on regular colors, but Fall colors are still coming up short of demand.
Botanicals
Phalaenopsis Plants– Phal plant production has dropped. This was caused by the extremely warm temps that we had back in late August and early September. This caused the plants to stall so their development is behind schedule right now. Two of our main suppliers will be very limited for the next 4 weeks or so. Another supplier had been off production for the past two weeks and are just starting to recover now. Double and Single whites are extremely limited, an Mini or 3in plants are also limited, too tight to ship. We are getting what we can as they become available, and are pulling from every supplier we can. Some plants may be smaller than you are used to. Please be flexible until production returns to normal.
