Novelties
Acacia– We have bagged Mimosa from California and Italy, as well as the Finger Mimosa. This may be the last week of the Italian.
Astilbe– Astilbe is limited and quite expensive, with the exception of the White, so we won’t be bringing in any colors. Your sales rep can order from Dutch Direct if you need colors.
Calla Lilies- Large White Callas are very limited due to weather. If you have any large orders for the next two months, get them in early so we can fill your orders. To make matters worse, our local supplier lost about 2/3 of their crop recently, and will not recover in 2017. This was a great source of wedding quality callas, and we will start to feel the pain as wedding season kicks in.
Stock- There is a good supply of Stock from California for next week but demand is low so we will be buying conservatively.
Larkspur- Production is still low and prices are relatively high. We may see gaps in availability of some colors.
Delphinium- Production in California is still limited for another week or two. There seems to be a good supply from Ecuador but Peru is tightening up. One of our growers in Ecuador is growing a new hybrid variety called Pacific. We will have some this week. So far production is only 60-70 cm but it looks good.
Protea/Leucadendron- There is a bit of a gap in available product from South Africa for next week. Also the supply of Pink Protea from California is limited. Also the supply of Pink Protea from California is limited.
Basics
Basics are a little tricky this time of year. While demand in the US is low, there is increased demand around the world for International Women’s Day, which is March 8.
Fillers– Production is back on track after the holiday. We should have a good supply of Gyp, Limonium, Statice and Asters.
Liatris– New production of Liatris from revitalized plantings is coming on in different growing regions. This should increase the availability of longer lengths as newer plants produce longer lengths.
Lilies- Production on 2 bloom lilies is way down compared to past years due to improved bulb quality. This was done by growers because the cost of growing a 2 bloom vs. a 3+ bloom is the same except for a few cents difference in bulb costs, and they can sell the 3+ bloom for more. This also allows farms to increase pricing on the limited production of 2 blooms that they do have. If available, 2 bloom Lilies will continue to be more expensive over the next few weeks.
Chrysanthemums- Chrysanthemum growers continue to move away from traditional Football Mums as demand decreases year after year. They are moving into many new Disbud varieties though. Try out our Spring Disbud pack this week- it’s a great price and it will let you see some of the newer varieties that are available this year.
Carnations/Mini Carnations/Poms– There are plenty of Carns, Mini Carns and Pom Pons right now.
Gladiolas- Assorted colors are available from California, but solid colors are still extremely limited. We hope to see more in a couple of weeks. Good News- Mexico is now allowed to ship Glads WITH foliage. We have been testing them for a few weeks and they look good. We also have some from Costa Rica to fill in on colors we can’t get from other regions.
Botanicals
St. Patricks Day Items- We have or will have Oxalis in Red, Green and Iron Cross, Irish Moss, Shamrocks, Green Hydrangea, and Green Mums.
Hydrangea- Reminder for Spring- Some local hydrangea growers are no longer growing hydrangea. We will have them from Canada and California, but they will be limited. If you have special orders, try to order them 3-4 weeks early so we can be sure to source them for you.
Easter Items- We will have Easter Lilies starting around April 3. We should also have a good supply of Areca and Majesty Palms. Bulb items are available now from Canada, and will be starting from local sources in a few weeks.
Ficus Lyrata (Fiddle Leaf Fig)- There is a bit of a shortage right now. We are able to get some Standar
