This year’s USA Peony season

This year’s USA Peony season is a pretty unique year in that all three regions are in production at the same time- North Carolina, Virginia/Maryland and even New Jersey!!! This may have an affect of the length of this year’s season.

Festive Maxima

Festiva Maxima

Peony crops are somewhat different from most other crops. Like roses, the plants are in the ground for several years. Unlike roses, peony production cannot be manipulated (for the most part) so the productivity of the plant is based solely on weather conditions. Something interesting is that each variety has different growing patterns. For example, Festiva Maxima produces first and therefore is the first to expire. Sara Bernhardt produces last therefore it is one of the last varieties available.
